You have to feel truly sorry for Travis Wood. Notsomuch that he got a no-decision during Saturday’s game between the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies. That’s a common occurrence in Major League Baseball.

The reason to feel for Wood is that he pitched nine innings of one-hit baseball, only for the Reds relievers to falter for the second night in a row as Jimmy Rollins’ RBI single in the 11th enabled Philadelphia to edge Cincinnati 1-0 at Citizens Bank Park.

The Reds’ Wood and Phillies’ Roy Halladay battled it out in a true pitchers duel, with Wood keeping Philadelphia hitless until the ninth inning with the game still scoreless.

Nick Masset relieved Wood in the 10th and was on the mound for two batters; Bill Bray bailed Masset out, which sent the game to the 11th. Logan Ondrusek faced just one batter – Jimmy Rollins – and would proceed to serve up a RBI single to Rollins, scoring the game-winner.

As previously mentioned, Wood was nearly perfect as he pitched nine innings, allowing just one hit while striking out eight. Masset lasted just one-third of an inning, allowing a hit while losing pitcher Bray (0-1) went an inning and a third, allowing a run on a hit ,walking and striking out one.

Of the six hits scratched out by the Reds, four of them were by Orlando Cabrera and Miguel Cairo with two apiece.

The final game of this series takes place on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park, with Matt Maloney (0-1, 4.76 ERA) getting the start for Cincinnati while Philadelphia counters with Cole Hamels (6-7, 4.05 ERA).
